Just got home from another birth. We've got a sweet new girl in our town! She is absolutely adorable and perfect in every way.
Mama had been planning a natural labor and delivery, then induction got thrown into the mix and her labor plans were up in the air. A few hours into the induction, things were picking up quickly and mama decided to go for the epidural. Unfortunately, the epidural didn't take and baby didn't want to wait any longer! In the end, mama had the unmedicated birth she had originally planned on, baby was born in her bag of waters (so cool!) and while none of it was really what had been expected, it was all very awesome! Mama is a champ for sure! Baby was just as happy to see mama as mama was to see baby and I left them both snuggled in bed, sweetly resting together. ~Rebekah

I actually thought I might miss a delivery this morning! There's always that chance that labor will progress quickly and I won't make it before the baby is born, but that is not typically how it goes. This morning gave me a run for my money, though!
My phone rang at 3:40 this morning. Contractions had started around 2 a.m. and they were pretty sure this was it. Mom was planning to labor at home for awhile, but while I was gathering up my things, I got a call saying that she couldn't stay home any longer and they were headed to the hospital. I met them at the hospital at 4:30 and she was 8 to 9 cms! At 7:41 this morning, a sweet new soul joined our world. Another surprise baby (yay!) and beautiful new family of three is born. Congratulations Mommy and Daddy! ~Rebekah I just got home from welcoming a new baby into the world. Well, actually, I just finished stuffing my face with some long overdue dinner, but that's irrelevant. :)
I loved watching this family dance through labor. Mama and Daddy were accompanied by their 2 young kids. It was beautiful! The youngest was cooling his mama with cold washcloths and the oldest was holding mama's hand and taking pictures (a birth photographer in the making!). It was incredible to watch this family working together, supporting each other and welcoming their newest member as a unit. One of my favorite parts of this birth is that the family did not find out if they were having a boy or a girl. Mama seemed pretty convinced that it was a girl, but SURPRISE! Baby is a boy! I think she said, "I can't believe I have another boy!" at least 7 times while I was there. She was thrilled...and maybe a little surprised. :) I am so thankful that they let me be a part of it all. Pictures to come soon! ~Rebekah It's always good to start at the beginning, don't you think? So good for you! Here you are at the beginning of my blog. :)
I'm not exactly sure what all I'm going to put on here, but I like to blog, so I thought this would be a fun addition to our site. Stephanie doesn't even know I'm starting this (Hi, Stephanie! By the way, I'm going to start a blog on our website.), so I don't know if she'll write on here or not, but you'll at least have me rambling on here from time to time. I hope to share some research findings, some pictures, some birth stories...you know, whatever strikes my fancy. For now, I'll just tell you what I've been thinking about today. I've been thinking that it's humorous that I'm starting into a career that revolves around birth. I have long said that patience may be a virtue, but it's not one of mine! My own pregnancies drove me crazy at the end because I know they say no one has been pregnant forever and I realize that my babies are clearly not in my belly anymore, but I'm telling you--I was pregnant FOREVER. All of that incessant waiting...and waiting...and waiting. Yeah, waiting is really not my thing. But here I am! And happy to do it. Just goes to show you--God's got a pretty crazy sense of humor. :) ~Rebekah |
